RACIAL STANDARD GUIDELINES

Currently the Association for the Garafian Shepherd Dog is working on revision of the racial standard. There are many factors involved in the development of this breed. Some morphology deviations are observed that have distanced it from the shepherding aptitude that gave origin to this race: interbreeding, lack of exercise, overfeeding, etc.

Therefore it is recommended as follows:

- Try to make crosses that do not exceed the height described in the standard: 64 cm for males, 62cm for females.

- Conical head, relatively small  in relation to the body; abundant tendency of molossoide specimens observed.

- Enhance the dog’s energy through action! Strengthen stamina through physical exercise and sport.

If you have the possibility, test the dog for its natural shepherding instinct.
